Anthropic Targets Corporate Efficiency with Claude Duet
The new agent distinguishes itself from personal assistants by focusing on business automation, data analysis, and background task management for professionals.

Anthropic has entered the crowded market of AI agents with a distinct strategic pivot, launching Claude Duet to capture the attention of professionals and small businesses rather than general consumers. The move places the company in direct competition with a rapidly expanding field of rivals, including Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, Hark, Instinct, Grok Bot, and Fo, as the industry shifts focus from simple chatbots to autonomous workers that can execute tasks on a user's behalf.
The core tension in this launch lies in Anthropic's deliberate differentiation of Claude Duet from personal assistants. While many competitors focus on handling errands, booking tickets, or managing daily schedules, Anthropic argues that Duet is not designed for these lightweight, personal interactions. The company explicitly noted that the agent is not optimized for handling simple errands and lacks the capability to display its browser activity in real-time, a feature common in other agent-based products. Instead, the tool is engineered for deeper professional utility.
Key to its value proposition is Duet’s ability to act as a proactive business partner. The agent can construct daily briefings, generate analytical dashboards, and suggest strategic actions based on the user’s proprietary data. It operates within its own virtual machine, allowing it to complete complex tasks in the background while the user continues their work. If a decision point arises that requires human input, the agent will pause and request approval, ensuring that the workflow remains under the user’s ultimate control.
The launch coincides with a broader market trend where major AI companies are refining their offerings to serve specific business use cases. Meta’s Muse, for instance, has expanded beyond a personal assistant to include a small business version with deep app integrations. Similarly, OpenAI’s Dots emphasizes a business slant through its connections to professional tools. Anthropic positions Claude Duet in this same tier, aiming to provide a robust environment for enterprise-level productivity rather than casual consumer interaction.
Technically, Claude Duet is built on the Claude Opus 5.5 model and leverages the extensive Claude Marketplace, which offers access to more than 6,000 connectors and plug-ins. This integration capability allows the agent to interact with a wide array of third-party services. The system is designed to monitor ongoing tasks and proactively deliver recommendations, ensuring that users are kept informed without needing to constantly check on the agent’s progress.
Financial transactions are a central feature of the new agent, with support for online purchases via Stripe’s Link digital wallet and Shopify’s Shop Pay. However, Anthropic has implemented strict safeguards for these sensitive actions. While the agent can initiate purchases, it requires explicit user approval for such steps. To maintain clear boundaries, Duet is not permitted to trade securities or transfer funds between accounts, limiting its financial autonomy to specific e-commerce contexts.
Security concerns are addressed through a new classifier designed to scan every message for potential data leaks. By default, the agent will decline requests that involve sensitive information, such as credit card numbers or government identification, unless the user explicitly overrides this behavior. This layer of protection aims to make the agent suitable for professional environments where data privacy is paramount.
Claude Duet is currently available in a research preview for Pro and Max customers. It can be accessed via the Claude.ai web platform or as a native application on iOS and Android devices. Access is currently restricted to a waitlist, indicating that Anthropic is managing rollout carefully as it tests the agent’s capabilities in real-world professional settings.
